Joining our team of educators at the Houston ISD Outdoor Education Center is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to share your knowledge and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Our unique learning environment provides a plethora of teachable moments that allows our students to make connections within all facets of their lives. As educators, we too are constantly learning and developing as individuals through our connection with students, the interaction with fellow staff members and the rich diversity of the natural world around us. While working at the OEC you will have the opportunity to develop your teaching skills to a professional level through the guidance of a veteran teacher and gain an understanding of the Houston ISD public school system. Professional development opportunities - field trips, educational events and informative guest speakers - allow us to develop scientific knowledge, refine our teaching techniques and deepen our understanding of the diverse group of students we serve.
The community aspect of our program is a unique and interesting component of working at the OEC. While teaching and living here you will develop meaningful connections and establish professional relationships with people from across the country.
We hire teachers who have a passion for working with children and a desire to teach in a unique environment. While we most often teach lessons and lead cabin groups alone (12:1 student-teacher ratio), we plan our weeks together within our teaching teams.
